PERSONALITY:

Everything you need to know about Steve Rogers is presented in his opening scene in the First Avenger. He is waiting in line to be seen by the doctor assessing his fitness for duty. He hears a lot of people are dying and someone makes a comment about thinking twice about enlisting. His response? Nope.

The truth is everything from his pre-serum days tells you what you need to know about Steve Rogers. This opening scene in particular sets the stage for his life as a soldier and later a superhero. The big truth revealed here is that Steve cares deeply and passionately about the weak and the vulnerable. He cannot stand injustice. Steve fights not out of hate necessarily. He sees a problem, the powerful stepping on those they deem less than them, and he feels compelled to act. He doesn’t care if you think he is unfit. He should do something that puts him between those people. He must stop it with his own two hands.

He can also be selfish even if his intentions are good. Does he need to be a soldier to help these people? No. He wants to prove to everyone else that he isn’t the burden they think he is. He is just as capable as everyone else. He is willing to lose precious time with his best friend and brother figure to make this happen. He is willing to die during a dangerous experiment too despite having a loved one overseas who would be devastated to lose him.

Even when he isn’t the best friend, he is always loyal. There is no better proof than the fact that when he discovers Bucky is captured and likely dead, he goes after him anyways. There is no glory in what he is doing. People clearly think he's deluded and naive for thinking he can save his friend. The thing is he loves Bucky. The thought of not going for him in his time of need is unacceptable even if all he is likely to get is a dead body for his trouble. We see this later in life when Peggy’s health prevents her from remembering Steve is alive on a consistent basis. He still goes to her, spends time with her, and treats her as equal knowing that she will likely break his heart during the visit. He doesn’t care. He loves her. He is going to spend as much time with her as he can before her time comes.

That ability to handle and endure pain doesn’t make Steve a saint. Another thing boiling under the surface during his introduction and through the stories told in the MCU is his anger. We see in his introduction his anger that he cannot accomplish his goals of serving his country and helping others on his terms. It never goes away. He is angry at corrupt or immoral authority figures in the Avengers and Winter Soldier as seen in his scenes with Nick Fury. The man may be on the side of the angels, but Steve never gives him a pass for good intentions. He holds Fury accountable for the actions that enabled HYDRA to finally gain a weapon capable of mowing down innocents as well as the guilty by the million. (Because at the end of the day the punishment should come after the crime as far as Steve is concerned. There is no morally good reason to have the ability to wipe out a million people even if they are ‘bad’ people.) We see it again in Age of Ultron in a more personal capacity. He is angry that he lacks a home and family. It bothers him that everyone is accidentally (Tony and Clint) or intentionally (in Wanda’s case) rubbing his nose in it.

The final thing I must note is that even if Steve is not always a perfect friend or love interest for that matter, he does have a tremendous amount of faith in people; even the ones he hurts. He believes in Peggy so much that he excuses SHIELD despite knowing they were up to things that he deemed morally wrong. She made them. How can they be that bad if she was responsible for them? She must sort him out before he can see that his stance on them before he knew Peggy was involved was correct. Another example is Tony Stark. They may fight bitterly at times, but Steve has complete faith in the man. It is no mistake that Steve speaks so highly of Tony as a defender of Earth during Infinity War. He knows even when Tony screws up badly, he truly does want the same thing as Steve: a better tomorrow for everyone. He trusts the people he lets into his life; even the ones he doesn’t always completely agree with. He does love them even if mistakes are made along the way by both parties.

In conclusion, Steve is a man determined to help others especially the weak in any way he can. He is incredibly loyal to his friends. It doesn’t make him perfect. He still gets angry, screws up, and hurts the people closest to him. At the end of the day, he is a good man who is honestly trying his best as promised. While he may not always succeed, he does much of the time.

CANON POWERS: Steve has the super soldier serum in his veins. This grants his enhanced strength, senses, strangely good memory, healing, etc. He is basically at the peak of what a human being could naturally achieve.

OTHER: Just a reminder I am happy to accept the limitations explained to me in the FAQ and whatever needs to be placed on his magic ability.
